Hi all,

I've been resurrecting our old HD9B and it's actually running very well, thankfully! I've been searching the web for a replacement oil filter cartridge with absolutely no luck. The existing (30 yr. old!) cartridge is about 6 in. long and 3 5/8 in. diameter. The outer housing has a label on it with AC markings as opposed to General Motors. The filters I've found for the 4-71 are substantially larger in length and diameter.

By chance, would any of you know of a source for the stock HD9B oil filter cartridge? Many thanks in advance.

Jim

AC was at one time a division of GM, what number is present on that cartridge can?

By one listing a WIX 51242 just under 6” long and 3 5/8” diameter should be it. Should be a spring and cup at bottom of housing that keeps the filter against the engine side filter head.

The WIX 51242 crosses to a Fleetguard LF587 which you should be able to get at any Heavy Duty truck parts place, or directly from Fleetguard.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

DMiller: The label on the outer housing was illegible. However, I didn't think of looking for markings on the cartridge itself. I'll do that over the weekend. Also, there's a spring and large flat washer inside the housing and on TOP of the filter cartridge. I didn't pull the cartridge out far enough to have a look underneath. More to come...

Thanks to everyone for the very helpful feedback.
