for required HP for a given hydraulic pump?

For instance, what would a 2500psi 12gal/min pump require?

Not sure what hydraulic suppliers still have charts for that kind of thing. a decade ago Baum Hydraulics , Omaha, Ne. had a chart in their catalog online. Listed gear, vane, piston/ open & closed center pumps. I'm sure there's still a company with a similar online chart. They also had chart showing how much PSI and piston diameter of cylinder to lift "X" pounds.

When would a hydraulic system ever be operated at full 2500 psi continuously ??  A series four D-17 hydraulic system not doing any work and engine running wide open throttle takes less than 1 HP to circulate 12 GPM of oil at 100 psi.   When you hit the end of a hydraulic cylinders stroke and don't let the hyd lever cancel to HOLD, the relief valve opens (2,200 psi takes 15 HP) and then makes the engine labor. So it's only a momentary 15 HP load.
