Sharing my current project. Some time ago I asked if anyone had ever installed a small block in an Allis B. No one responded. I inherited this low rider project from a fellow club member who passed away. His plan was to use a B engine. I changed gears, and am adapting a small block instead. 

Thought I would share my progress so far. Completion will happen some time in 2025, due to spending 5 months in Florida this coming Winter. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

a little discussion on the flywheel , clutch, match up to bell housing... ??

So far on the Low Rider B project, I had a laser cut adapter plate to mate the engine to the B  bell housing.  Then I used a Chevrolet standard shift flywheel cut down to the B size flywheel and drilled and tapped to accept the B  pressure plate.  In order to make the starter and clutch work I had a coupling made to attach the small block crank shaft to the chevrolet flywheel.  That moved the flywheel back far enough so the starter and clutch would work properly.  Currently concentrating on the front of the engine building brackets to mount the front axle and maintain the correct height so the radiator and front radiator housing will stay at the same height as the gas tank.  The gauge panel will be housed in the hood like a WD45 Diesel

My brother rescued an AC B that had no power, likely "just" worn pistons sleeves.

I keep trying to avoid convincing him to convert it to a low rider and throw new parts at the engine.

But we have our father's Oliver 880 he left us half reassembled to finish first so there is shed space for the AC.

Thanks man, you've added another layer of "what if" to my Redneck B project.  I WILL hear the original engine run at least BUT the thought had crossed my mind whether a Peugeot/Citroen XUD9 repower would be viable.  My thoughts are maybe not as a "working" tractor due to the structural block (although both the SBC and XUD are strong iron blocks) but would be pretty cool to have the torque & sound of a turbodiesel plus top "speed" would likely be similar to your project (at a guess they'd pull about 24-28mph in road gear) since these engines are happy being spun up to 5k RPM all day & even over 6k for short bursts.  Would be pretty cool as a road run toy haha

If planning a road racer build, make sure the steering system is super tight. Most farm tractors drive like binder twine is holding the linkages together but it doesn't matter because the speeds are so slow.

Posting an updated progress report.  Mock up engine has been removed, and a completely rebuilt " 283" engine has been installed.  Cut down Chevrolet flywheel with a B ring gear was used.  A 2 and 3/8 inch spacer installed between the crankshaft and the flywheel.  That makes the B flywheel work with the ALLIS starter.    The B clutch disc and pressure plate were also used.  Modifications to the B radiator, fuel tank and extended hood are underway.  Stabilizers for the front axle are also being fabricated.  Steering arm is still an unknown issue.  Haven't got to that yet. Any suggestions?

Maybe use upswept headers. Have room for a drag link then.
Besides, tractor exhaust is supposed to go up!

If I didn't know better, I'd say they look like Chevy Pickup headers. They look great! Stainless too!
