Good Evening all. You all have seen me around and probably knew my dad (Don MO). Dad and I went on an adventure 5 or 6 years ago to find a model 33 corn picker. Found a complete one on a Early WD SN#66181. The problem with the tractor is on the transmission housing, where the hand clutch pivot pin goes in the side of the housing, is cracked and broke out.
Dad and I came to agreeance that I should just get the tractor running and check for operation of the corn picker. Which we did. Picked corn with the corn picker. Had to ride the hand clutch because tractor was going to fast in 1st gear in good heavy corn. Dad made the recommendation to put a WD 45 diesel rear end in the tractor to slow it down.
Fast forward. Dad has since past away. I got all of his "treasures" and in all the parts I have a WD45D rear end and transmission that's in damn good shape. Serial # of diesel rear end is 230882D.
This summer I took the corn picker off the WD tractor. Started to tear the tractor down to restore it and replace the rear end and transmission with the diesel rear end and transmission. Since I have tore it down to absolutely nothing but a pile of parts in the floor, I gutted the torque tube on the #66181 tractor. After spending time on the AGCO website parts manuals and talking to the local AGCO dealer, We are in agreeance that serial number 70966 and prior uses a different seal configuration to separate the hydraulic cavity from the hand clutch cavity.
My reasoning for all this I think I can use the the engine clutch shaft out of the serial number 66181 in the 230882d torqued tube. I don't have the engine clutch shaft out of 230882d torque tube or i would use it. According to the Parts books the torque tube has the same part number form cradle to grave on the WD series tractors. And the engine clutch shaft has the same part number cradle to grave on the WD series tractors.
I have pressed the old seal bushing/sleeve off the engine clutch shaft from the 66181 tractor. I have since installed it into the 230882 torque tube. I have found no reason it wont fit or work. took a set of depth micrometers an measured the depth of the two seal lips where they would ride on the engine clutch shaft and it should work.
What is the difference in the torque tubes between the two and would there be any difference between the engine clutch shafts between the serial numbers? The parts books sure don't show one. Any and all advise is welcome. If dad (Don MO) was here, he could tell me in a second.
Thanks Bobby
