Hey all though I would give everyone an update on my 190 gas that was smoking blue. I did what all the

helpfull people on here said. I First changed oil to w30 did not help much. Then I just ran the tractor smoking

started getting worse and worse. After a while it was smoking a ton so I pulled it into the shop and started to pull

down the engine to look at what needed replacment. After I pulled the valve cover I found the intake pushrod on

cyl 3 was out of the rocker arm. Popped it back in and set the gap and put back together and started it up

smoked a ton on startup and then burned clean. what I am gessing what happened was when the piston tried to

pull air fuel mix in like it normally would it could not and therefore made a lot of suction on the rings and valves in

cyl 3 and then pulled in oil. Then when the exaust valve opened it would push the oil into the exaust then when it

warmed up and the pipe got hot it would burn the oil in the muffler and make the blue smoke. this tractor sat

nonrunning for 5 years. previous owner said it just didnt have power. must have just been always been running on

5 out of 6 cyl. sorta interesting never heard of anyone else having a problem like this

All those who read and posted suggestions as to what to do, all naturally assumed that the engine was hitting on all six cylinders. The only one who could possibly know it wasn't was you.

yes I agree. Not trying to say everyone should of thought of it or something. I am the one who should have known

that it was only running on 5. everyone was extremly knowledgeable and helpfull for trying to find the problem.

I've had some very "seasoned" mechanics have this issue bite them. Had a IH mechanic have us rebuild the pump and injectors off a 1066 for putting fuel in the oil. He got it back on and still complained of the issue. We told him to check the valvetrain, but he insisted it had to be our pump and/or injectors at fault. "It runs perfect, and doesn't miss!" he kept stating. Well, after wasting a lot of our time to once again prove the pump wasn't leaking, and checked injectors numerous times, he finally pulled valve cover and found a broken rocker arm. This guy knows these engines very well, but could not pick up on a miss! lol! A couple of things I always try to suggest is compression test, and temp gun on exh manifold. Is it smoking in puffs, or steady? Glad this one was easy!

Not everyone has a good 'ear' for picking up on these things; I know that I do not. My wife can sing harmony by just picking it out of the air, I just sing off key (but I sing loud to make up for it).

For those who can hear a slight 'miss' in an engine, count your blessings, we less talented folks need to rely on tools to help us with our disabilities.

My infra-red non-contact thermometer gets a lot of use, what a wonderful tool! Smile
