Thoughts or comments on reusing a crank the the rod cap came off? Dont appear to be any visual damage Thinking about sending one into the machine shop to get looked at. Any one have repurposed a used crank with a rod cap failure or any comments or thoughts? Thanks R-5 and a 7040 red belly are the 2 I have

I've never seen a rod cap come off that wasn't catastrophic. I guess if the machine shop gives its stamp of approval, I'd give it a shot.

Im with Lynn. Cant imagine a cap coming off and not beating up the crank but i guess anything is possible. If it doesnt have impact marks and the shop says its not cracked yes id run it

One of the cranks I had welded and stroked to 5.5" for my puller had a spun rod brg on #1. As long as it wasn't cracked it was a great candidate for that project. Should be savable.
