Recently aquired a disassembled engine. The block has W7570 on the back end also has U 3019-5 on the side. Crankshaft has U ?986 the connecting rods have U 3988 on them. Do all these parts work in the same engine and would it be from a WD or a 45? Thanks for any help.

I would say from the serial and casting # on block that it's an early WC, 1934-1935. The WC/WD block has a plate bolted on the right side behind the mag/oil filter and the WD45 has a smooth one piece block.

The unstyled engines had the engine serial number stamped on a pad in the center rear of the block just above the clutch housing. When starters were available with the styled tractors the serial number was moved to a pad on the left side of the block.

I checked a couple of my WC's and I'd say you have a 1935 WC block. The suffix on the casting of my 1934 is 3 and on my 1936 it's 8 so your's falls in between there somewhere. I know from my engine serial #'s that they are the correct engines for the tractors. I have suffix #'s into the 30's on the newer ones so the suffix must not follow the year exactly as they do on the B/C/CA blocks.

Never even considered it being a WC. I was thinking early WD. Still wonder if I have the right crank and rods. Was there much difference between the WC and WD engines? Got a brand new set of pistons and sleeves with this. Hope they bought the right ones for it. Thanks for the help.

WC and WD were pretty much the same engine.

The very early WC's, of which yours may be one, had a smaller crankpin journal than the later ones. By the casting numbers, I'd say you have a small journal crankshaft. The rods will be different and have a smaller big end.

Where would a person look to find engine specs for the WC and WDs?
