top of this page right of center is "serial nuber" icon... last tractor in 1939 was 33500.... so yours is a 1940.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

It shows 3763 not 33763. Would that still be a 1940. The engine is BE3704. Would you be able to tell by numbers if it's original motor to tractor or no.

Your tractor is a 38. From the engine number it probably is original or replacement at very low hours.  About as close to original block a you will find for it.

With a little math it should be original. Tractor number of 3763 minus engine number of 3704 is 59 fewer engines than tractors. But the 1st 97 tractors have a different engine. Add 97 to the -59 engines and we have 38 extra engines. Those extra were used for power units.  It seems reasonable to think that is the original engine!

yep.. my bad on the 5 digit serial number...... also remember that the engine is 80 years old... lots of updates / rebuilds during that time.. It is possible that an overhaul was done at some point and you have  the larger pistons and liners. No way to tell for sure without internal inspection................ look closer at the engine sn.. should be "BE"... not "E".

Here's what is stamped on the rear of transmission housing, left of seat - wd 40246
This is what's on the left side of carburetor WD 245030
I'm not seeing any other numbers or any that match those listed.

i think the last 50 was 35471........ and the last 1951 was 72356... so yours (40246) was early in the year of 1951.... the carburetor number  is not  needed..

couple of sites differ if the listing is the FIRST for that year or the LAST... so you could call it a 1950 ...

Hi Mike

Welcome to the Allis Forum.

You can easily determine the year of your WD by using the

"Allis Chalmers Serial Number Reference" at the top of this page.

Note the message at the top "Early Serial Numbers are the Ending Numbers for each year"

In your case your WD Tractor Serial Number WD 40246:

ending Serial Number in 1949 is WD 35444

ending Serial Number in 1950 is WD 72327

So your WD is a 1950 Model.

The other Serial number you have WD 245030 GA stamped in the Engine Block to the left of the Carb. is the Engine Serial Number.

The GA at the end of the Engine Serial Number means that Engine left the Assembly Plant in 1950 as a Gas Engine.

Hope this helps

Gary
