my stepdad has a WD45 and the governor weights exploded. he put the governor assembly out of a WD in it. now the governor does not work. are those parts interchangeable? if so, what could we look for as to why it wont work. thanks

probably got out of adjustment with the carb. did he get the pieces out of the engine and made sure no cam teeth were missing?

The carb is probably O.K. I suspect that you have messed up the timing when reinstalling the governor. You book should tell you how to time the distributor properly. There isn't much if any difference between a 45 and a WD as far as governors are concerned providing the WD has a proper distributor conversion on it.

While it is always dangerous to assume anything, I assume that the tractor won't run. If it is strictly a governor issue, scratch what I said in a previous post and check the thrust bearing and weights for looseness and freedom as there should be no binding in their operation. The throttle linkage should similarily be free. Make sure that the spring is attached to keep the governor from surging (on linkage arm, other side of the tractor)

yes the tractor runs but the governor doesnt kick in.

I would assume his replacement gov is a used piece and the wear on the ramps could have taken any preload away. but timing can be a promblem also get the carb to go wide open at full throttle with the engine not running . then set the timing . Its pretty simple just run the tractor to high idle turn the distributor till engine sounds the best by ear. run it in the field for a while at high idle then shut it down with verry little idle time pull a plug and make shure the blue line on the plugs ground strap is above where it welds to the steel body and right where the 90 degree bend begans or in it and its timed for the best power. if you really want to tweak all the poer out of it you will have to cut the threaded steel body of the plug so you can see the porcelain around the electrode if the carb is adjusted correctly for best air fuel ratio they will be a tan ring on the porcelain just a tad below the steel body . another words where the wrench goes they should be a small band of the white porcelan then the tan fuel ring.
