I just got a C home and am looking it over with some questions. Someone did a 12 volt conversion on it and used a mitsubishi alternator. It does not shut off with the switch. I had to turn the gas off and let it idle till it died. The previous owner told me this was how he had been doing it for years. Said if you leave the switch in the run position it will discharge the battery. When pushed to the off position it still runs though. Something is wrong!
Also, will a set of rims from a B work on a narrow front C?

The rims are interchangeable from B to C. I would guess that whoever re wired it has some wires switched around from where they should go. You will need to trace out the wires with a wiring diagram. The + and - were most likely switched when going to 12 volt. The switch is not grounded if they installed a distributor.  |

Sounds like it is like a delco alternator.
The wire that should have a light in it is + from both sides. The wire either needs a light wired in in series or a diode to stop the + flow from the alternator while it is running. A anternator on/off switch can also be installed to kill the alternator. |

Look over this page to find if the answer is there . You are getting a feedback from altenator to the coil . If the alt is discharging the bat then the stator is being the draw and the diodes are leaking.

You just need to run the coil power wire through a contact on the switch, so that when yo uturn it off, there will be no power to the coil. Pretty simple. May need a different switch though. One with more than one contact. ------------- I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me! |

| You need a diode between the alt and switch on the alt. pigtail, can get one at a starter alt. repair place, they'll even solder it in for ya, they will around here anyway. |

| The simplest way I have found to remedy that problem is to buy a "headlight switch" at Napa or Oreilly or whatever auto store is in your neck of the woods. They normally have 3 or 4 contacts that all connect with the switch pulled out, and all disconnect with it pushed in. That way, everything connects and charges, but when you kill it, everything disconnects as it should. |
