That's a one of a kind. Is it oil cooled or air cooled? Got a picture?

I'm assuming it's air cooled, all the oil drains from the same spot, bottom of the oil pan.

Post photos of your atypical 185.

That always helps to identify and interpret.

A Deutz engine in a 185 would take some major modifications. I'd like to see it too. I wonder if there's some confusion and it's a Deutz Allis 7085 ???

Would A engine tag be marked Deutz if the block would have been replaced during DA years

I'd never looked at it like this, but Deutz-Fahr bought the Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment division. They never purchased the Harvey Engine facility or business to my knowledge. The engine division would have failed a short time after the sale of the farm equipment division because FE was their biggest customer. Deutz-Fahr never offered a "re-power" program to shove one of their air-cooled engines into a 185 tractor.

Thanks to all for your kind replies.  I just deleted the post as a last --minute stand against hari kiri.  I also have an 873 Bob-Cat with a Deutz engine which uses engine oil as the coolant.  That has been on my mind and must have jumped track to the 185 thought.  However, it is most likely due to dementia, as my wife is so fond of saying.  My advice to everyone is to thank the big guy for clear thinking and pray that something similar never happens to you.  For myself, I just pray my spouse never learns of this little gem!  Sadly, I should just throw in the towel and sell off all these wonderful toys I spent 86 years collecting and stop worrying about maintenance and repairs.  That's what she wants but what do you think are the odds of me doing that?  You are all entitled to a big belly laugh, a frosty can of brew, giving all the grandkids a hug, calling up your dogs and taking 'em all for ice cream in your truck.  Peace, health and happiness.

I don't know what ever happened to it, but a number of years ago, there was a 7580 with a Deutz diesel sitting at Johnson Farm Equipment in Fremont NE.
