I'd like to replace the brake linings on my IB.  Anyone have any suggestions on how to best to secure the rivets without breaking the lining?

Yup! Got the answer for that! Give em' to Rick Corder. He does a fantastic job for everybody here. Look him up in the classifieds.

Because I don't have 3 hands and there's no way my wife will help? Actually I've removed them and found 'em broken so I'm kinda paranoid. I know I can have it done but I'm a DYI guy.  Thanks for the reply.

I did rivet my own for my B, but I promised myself I will not settle for less than buying new shoes next time. I did struggle with the lining wanting to crack also around the rivets. Cry

The right length of the proper rivet, along with the right rivet set helps a lot.

A friend had an old foot stomp rivet setting machine. Was very handy, but feel over in the big earthquake we had in 03 and the cast iron broke. And now he is gone too.

McMaster Carr had a full line of the hollow core brass rivets. As well as the proper punch/rivet setting tools.

Steiner Tractor Parts, online, lookup Brake Shoe Riveting Tool. They have at least 2 versions, both under $100.
Some older tractor repair shops/dealers may have the step-on type riveter setting back in a corner collecting dust.
