I am working on the front end of my Series 1 D17 and the hole in the front pivot is worn to the point almost having cut out the top of the hole. What is the best way to repair this?

Take it to a good welding shop have them weld up the hole and retap with a bushing similar to the newer D-17's.  I have one in the same shape as yours.

Is there something that can be used as "fill" to take up some of the space or is it just better to weld in the worn area? The hole is twice as long as is should be.

I used some square shaft to take up most of the space. Just used the welder to fill in the gaps. Die grinder made the hole round again.

a WFE ?

isn't there a bushing in there?  you can buy them new, but if the shaft is also worn, it should either be replaced or built up and re-machined round; not an easy task.

Tracy Martin can supply you with a new machined front pivot pin/shaft to weld on to replace the old one.  Mike

Get it repaired!  D17 S/N 2061 had front pivot let go when working ground w/AC SC disc about 1967.   Tractor took a nose dive as front axle let go and came to rest under gas tank.  Younger btrother was driving; no one hurt.  After that, "safety wired" the bolt-on bracket that held pivot, and started to check regularly, especially when driving into the barn over the door footings--you could see and hear if things were still "tight."

I took my front axle and casting to the local machine shop.  They fixed both the pin and bushing on my D14.  I got them to make the pin a bit longer too so the weight is spread over more area.
