You're in Vale, aren't you? I saw pictures of the damage in Claremont. There were overturned semi trailers, which is not that surprising. The overturned grave stones surprised me.

Yes, I live about 5 miles from the touch down area. Houses were picked up and set back down, roofs tore off (the only thing left standing was four walls), mobile homes picked up shreaded and thrown down in the road. Looks like it was bad in that area. This is the picture that blew my mind. I don't know why, but I always thought a granite head stone would be pretty stable.

Now that's some serious wind! Never known of anything like that turning over headstones?
We had tornado warnings here and all around us yesterday morning. Bowling Green, KY (about 40 miles to the South) had a confirmed F1 tornado touch down for 2.2 miles. It tore up some barns but nobody was injured. Looking at the map and the way it was traveling, if it had come down to the ground about a mile or so earlier, it would have be right in the heart of the busiest part of town! They were truly blessed!
Glad everyone survived your way. I can handle some wind, rain, lightning, and even hail. When the word "tornado" comes out, whether a watch or a warning, I just fall to pieces. It's got me thinking more about fixing me a better storm shelter. The cellar that I have has trees grown up all around it and I'm afraid when they get uprooted it will cave the thing in on me. ------------- Just when I thought I was finishing my "honey-do-list", she turned the page!!! |

| Good eye Split, I saw that and wondered how in the world they held up. That sure looks like a nasty storm. Man, we've been lucky to have had the stuff miss us so far. We havent had rain here in a month+ but I'd rather stay dry than deal with 140 mph winds. Maybe we'll get a shower tonight before it moves on out tomorrow. |

| It is amazing how somethings are affected and other things in same area are untouched. I remember when hurricane Hugo came through in 89 and spawned several tornados locally. Dad was the supervisor at the saw mill and he would come home aggrivated for months because the damaged trees would explode when they hit the saw head.They had been twisted by the winds and were still in a state of tension. He said the trees looked normal and would run through the debarker without trouble but time they hit the saw head they would fly apart destroying the saws, so they would have to shut down for several hours to change out the saws and reset everything. I think he had one night that it happened three times and since they were on production there were many nights they worked straight through until first shift showed up the next morning. Every time a storm comes through now he talks about how glad he is to be retired so that he won't have to deal with it again. |
