Needing some help on an allis c. I recently had a major overhaul done ,new wire harness,rebuilt generator,rebuilt starter,new gauges,lights , on off switch, starter switch,new battery n heavy gauge welding cables. i have ran the tractor for a few months with no problems. My problem now is the starter wont hardley turn the tractor over. So i got another new battery ,and didnt make a difference. So i thought maybe something wrong in the starter,pulled it off again and starter was fine.Any ideas? Like i said the tractor started and ran fine for a few months. It makes no difference if the tractor is warm or not.

How did you check the starter? When I got my G the starter was stuck. I took it off and cleaned things up and jumped it, it spun over fine. When I put it back in, it wouldn't turn the engine over. One brush was bad so it could spin with no load but wouldn't with much of any load on it.
If the starter was load tested and is known good, make sure there is no paint on it where it contacts the clutch housing. Both these areas need to be clean for a good ground.
The next thing might be the starter switch. There are some really cheap starter switches out there.

I took it off and took it back to the guy that rebuilt it . He tested and shown fine but one of the springs was a little weak so he went through it again. I didnt try another starter switch ,i guess i could they arent that pricey. Thanks ,hope i can get it dialed in . Frustrating!

my 6V B starter is same way. I had it worked over and it helped but still needs to be at 100% battery to really kick. I put 2ga cable on too but did not seem to help much. It may get a new battery next year...

Just take the switch off the starter and make sure the contacts, including the one on the starter, are clean and flat and match up good. A good file and a good eye will help in fixing bad contacts.

If all else fails get a crank. That's all I have for the 38B and it never fails to start by the second quarter turn.

Are you using 6 volt battery or 12 volt.
6 volt battery needs real heavy duty battery cables ( I think 'O' or 'OO' gauge )
And good clean connections at every electrical contact point.

I have a dead short in my "rebuilt" generator on the B I am reassembling. Could not understand why it cranked so slow, and drained the battery so fast. Bumped against the generator and it was hot to the touch, so I disconnected it, and voila!, things started spinning like a top! The next thing I knew, it was running.

With 15 or more tractors in my back yard here at the house I don't even try to keep a good battery in all of them. I just use a jump battery pack like the one at the link.
Saves money in the long run.
