Last year I asked what guards others were using on their Allis mowers. I want to replace all mine before I paint it before mowing season arrives. Someone suggested the NH double guard but did not give me a part number. I cut pasture land with it and also orchard grass. I useTiger teeth sections but may go back to serrated sections with better guards. My AC guards are just worn too much to cut spring orchard grass when it’s really thick. It will clog between the section and guard. Called Hershel 2 different times and got 2 different opinions. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks Rob

If you go singles or doubles remember, smooth section-serrated guard. Serrated section-smooth guard. Most any single guard will work. I used the IH MC2041Z. The difference in the double guards is the back side where the knife rides. One has a built in wear plate. The other uses the wear plates you currently have. The best thing I did to my mowers and bean head is to install Crary adjustable holdowns. Schoup sells them. They keep the knife down on the guards. They are also tall enough to allow you to use section bolts.

Thanks for your response. I was looking at a guard at RK, G81-0807 that my brother uses on his AC sickle mower. It has the serrated plate on it. So your saying use a smooth section with it? My wear plates are in good shape and I have almost new hold downs.

Maybe I should get new smooth guards and try my Tiger teeth sections. They do cut very well and are almost new. My guards are just really worn.

Take a look at the adjustable holdowns. You wont believe what a difference they make.

Anyone use a NH 218 double guard? That appears to fit.

Macon, I hope that's a spare as those are difficult to come by. Best mower AC made IMO. Took me 3 years to find one.
