As far as I can tell, my 1954 WD45 did not come with a belt pulley. There is a plug with the pulley goes. The only instructions I can find to install the pulley say to look for the alignment mark on the frame. I do not see any mark on the tractor. My guess is they did not mark the frame due to not having a pulley. So, is there another way to figure out how to align the belt pulley?

Thanks,
Stan

Yeah, the service manual is clear as mud.LOL I may have to read it a few time to figure out what it is trying to say.

I am no expert on this. Have never done it. I do have a belt pulley on mine and the alignment marks are visible - on top of frame rail straight above the pulley tube. Mine were also covered with paint. Then find the marks in the middle of pulley tube. The retaining set screw gives you the gear mesh. Kinda like setting a diff. They want .005-.011 freeplay -same as a diff. I hope Doc or others see this and can clarify this for you.

Others will chime in.  In the manual it says the dealer does the mark on the frame and the pulley.  So, if you have a pulley not mated to your tractor the gear mesh will be a trial & error approach to see which hole in the pulley best gives you the proper gear mesh.  Also, have your tractor tilted on at least an 8 inch block with the wheels in.  Otherwise, when you pull that plug you'll have oil everywhere unless your oil level is low.  Good luck.

Did you make any progress on this one?

Belt pulleys were an option. No belt pulley-no marking.

This is a future project. (Mid-2024?) I am just collecting information for now.
