Dana's post reminded me of when I was 17 back in 1958 and a neighbor farmer hired me to ride his oliver pull behind combine. He paid me $.75 an hour; more than I had ever gotten paid before.
I learned how to tie a miller's knot then but probably could not do it now. We combined oats some of which was on steep side hills and I had to wrap my leg around the bag sometimes to keep it from sliding off the platform.
The best part; he was pulling it with a newly acquired WD-45 and I will never forget the sound when he made the turn at the end of the field and started up the hill. Ain't nothing like the sound of a WD-45 when the governor opens up under a real load.
It had a nice bark on the other end when he turned down the hill also.
