I finally found time to get my 1967 One Eighty back together after rebuilding the brakes, transmission, power director and engine clutch. After running it a few times I noticed what seems like a lot of pressure behind the dipstick for the hydraulic and power director compartment. I never had this before, but then again I didn’t have much of a seal between the transmission and power director either. How much pressure is normal in this compartment and how does the vent work in the dipstick?

Thanks all!

Remove the cotter pin and ball from the dipstick tube and throw them away. Now take the top cap off the dipstick and gut the mesh wire and perforated washer plate under the mesh wire and clean it all up. Reassemble with clean mesh wire and re-solder the cap back on the top of the dipstick. NO PRESSURE is good.

Thanks Doc! That’s kind of what I was thinking. Maybe this is the reason I found the front transmission seal in two pieces when I tore it down…
