Finally getting my 3-poit set-up installed and have read that many likes to drill and tap 1/2" threads in the lift housing for the upper link bracket.

Or would a 3/4 tap be even better?

Is it necessary to remove that entire housing to do this? Or can I just drill and tap with a shop-vac and let any of the internal metal shaving settle and do a oil flush to get out the worst of it?

Planning on tapping the existing PTO Shield holes or going a bit wider with 2 new holes in the thicker lower section only.

I've only done one over the years. I redid the existing 3/8" PTO shield holes to 1/2" NC thread Gr8 and was careful not to break thru to the inside and loctite. To go 3/4" would not be my choice. My bracket was homemade and I purposely shaped it to fit flat on top of the lift arm housing at the rear and drill two 1/2" holes down from the top into the lift arm housing and then extend forward to the seat mtg holes. The two holes on top I broke thru and nutted them on the inside with the housing removed. Loctitie seal everything.

You will find on that tractor, a shorter top link is needed and usually should be hooked higher up and away from the PTO shield bolt area. It's the geometry of the hitch.
