Plow was greased up from last year, but I haven't tried to roll any sod in a long time... Had to go in 1st gear wide open as I was losing traction in 2nd even with ballast, but pretty happy with the result. Will disc it down in the spring.

Never tried to upload a youtube short before, but here's about 30 seconds of video of plowing (looks okay on mobile, kind of like trash on Desktop I think):

Anyway, hope you all enjoy. Haven't been able to post in awhile, so good to be back.

.

Looks good!

I'd disk it now and broadcast 2-3bu/acre Winter Rye grain. That's where my field is now.
Next spring I'll plant corn/beans direct into the standing rye and when it pops up I'll knock the rye flat as weed barrier mulch. That works pretty well. Then in the fall I just disk and broadcast rye again.

You must have a WD45 to pull those three bottoms? I think my WD is only a two bottom puller.

Grandpa used to clean up the plow by driving down to the creek and plowing through a sandstone gravel bar a few times.  Now that's shiny...

SLee(IA) & wjohn -- Thanks! Pretty happy how the old girl still sounds. Use it to mow with a couple times a year and then usually plow a garden every other year, and try to give her a workout.

jvin248 -- I think my uncle is making this into a pumpkin patch so I'll probably let it sit all winter then disk it for him in the spring. I've got a '53 WD with a curved shifter. It can pull the three bottoms but it usually takes some work with the traction booster and/or gearing down depending on the soil (we have thick clay here).

DrAllis -- Man those old Nelsons have a sound unto themselves don't they? I have a new one sitting on my shelf to install eventually, this one has a side seam blow out (hence the black pipe I've sleeved over the top), but it has run almost 10 years in this configuration now! Purrs like a kitten! Can definitely tell this engine vs. my restored WD that has M&W pistons in it, she sounds different even with a Nelson.

Macon Rounds & captaindana -- Yeah this sod really shined it up more than ever before, I was impressed and I didn't even do that big of an area. Just keep it greased real good otherwise.

Michael V (NM) -- She was pulling pretty hard and that clay was really stiff and chunky but I was happy it was able to roll it right over like that.

Great pictures video!

I really love moldboard plowing! Maybe if I live another 15-20 years I'll figure out how to do it?

Thanks! Yeah, I wish grandpa was still around (he's been gone over 10 years now). Back up into the mid-80s he was plowing a couple hundred acres a year with the old open station setup. He told me all about making headlands and setting depths, and I know a lot of great information is in the plow manuals, but it takes a lot of feel and practice to get right as well. I've plowed maybe 10 acres total in the past decade, so I'm definitely no expert at any of this.

Nobody ever believed us that our wd45 handled a 4-14" semi mounted plow back in the day. "Not in my soil" you just don't want me to lap that 4010 🤣
