I am installing the return spring.
Per picture below, the forward end is attached to cotter pin's head.
Where does the other end go?

There should be a hole between the pivot hole and the clutch rod hole for it to go in. They did use different springs for different years and it might just hook in the cotter pin for the pivot back at the peddle.

I installed it per PaulB.
Painted end with a dab of white, you can see it protruding from the hole.
