I am 99% done with a FULL restore of a 1958 D17  I was very careful to label everything as I took it apart.  It is all back together and i have one part left over.  I have looked everywhere and nothing stands out.  It looks similar to the bracket that holds the brake lock.  Any help would be appreciatd.

Was it bolted to the cylinder head, for lifting? What are hole dimensions? And is the hex pattern worn into the piece, or factory made it that way.

It would not have been used for lifting.  The bracket is only 2 inches long.  The hex pattern appears to be original but you never know with these old machines.  It closely resembles the bracket for the brake lock but not exactly.  I will hold on to it until I figure it out.  Does not appear to be a critical part.

How LARGE is it?  Large enough to hold the rear work lamp on??

heck I'm impressed you only have ONE  leftover part !!!
rear work light mounting bracket sounds good, as there's only ONE of these 2" long parts

perhaps a 'parts picture' may show it ???
like others, I'm curious, so hopefully someone will KNOW what it is !!
