Came early, as of yesterday!! Was not scheduled until next Tuesday but had cancellation and my temp upper had come in.
Had been busting those rocks still on the trailer, got over half split when got the call. Really sore but no dry socket, a few blood seeps nothing extraordinary or much volume, expected.

Four stitches on separate tooth slots as those took rougher extraction, dissolvable and expected to last a few weeks. Swelling is notable where is keeping denture tight for now, removed to check bleeds and to clean some this morning, near to tough to get back in.

I have been exploring this avenue for a couple weeks now- have broken teeth in the back , a broken one now in the front -some days they ache so bad,, I need a new smile, seems dentures are way less expensive than implants- how do people afford implants ??

Have to explore both options as to pricing, the key with a Denture is the first one you get will be a Temporary, if they tell otherwise go elsewhere as the gums change over the year after teeth are pulled and a next or more permanent denture will have to be made.

IF you have jaw bone loss then implants will not work, if have plenty of structure in jaw then even retention clip pins/Snap Locks will be the ticket to keep the denture solid in the mouth.

It's a very expensive undertaking, I was at that point 4 years ago, I feared that my age (60 at the time) that 20+ years of denture wear would seriously wear down my jaw bones,
after many dental visits and lots of reading, I decided that total mouth implants were my best hope for having teeth the rest of my life. Mine are bolted in, no snaps or clips, they're not going anywhere without tools! I won't go into the finances, I'll leave it with you could buy a brand new dually for what I have in my teeth, but for the first time in 30+ years, my mouth doesn't hurt 24 hours a day, I can eat anything I want, I can smile, I just hate I waited so long. All I can say is listen to the Dentist, ask questions until you are satisfied, don't try to be cheap and get something done at one of these "teeth factories" where you are in and out in one day or week, spend the money to get it done right. Either one of you feel free to reach out to me and I'll gladly share with you what I know.

Nice to see teeth that look real. Midline off 4mm is nice touch. Of course with a nose like that. Good job

Very few people really need implants to hold a denture for the maxillary jaw. The lower is the problem.

And you don't get dry sockets from maxillary extractions

lol...wait til you gits your first tooth ache...and you don't gots no teeth! I got my new store bought teeth over 20 years ago, still using the same ones. they were made in the back of a farm shop somewhere in IA. oh...and watch out when you eat anything that has tiny seeds, that little bugger will feel like a boulder if they gits between the gums and the plastic! yep...hurts LOTS! it's still one of the best investments I made.

I had a farmer stop by the barm the other day with his denture. Had the same one for 30 years. Asked why he decided he wanted a new one. He said relining with a sheet of linch meat wasn't working anymore

This denture is a healing temp Denture, as I gain bone mass from the seeds the doc implanted and the gums heal the first year will add liners, between 9mos to a year once the determination that the jaw and gums are stable will get a second molding and a new fitted denture.  "Should last 5-20 years".

The gal removing the old ones noted were horribly brittle, were none root canaled yet as examined them at the end of extractions noted that eight of eleven the nerves were long dead.

Getting close to a year now with upper plate and fit is getting real lose as have to use lot of powder dental glue to keep it in place . Tried corn on the cob back in July and didn't go well , now 2 nights ago went to take a bite from hamburger and that didn't go well either . Having the plate rock when biting in front and back comes lose just makes eating a choir . So relining is next step in process I guess . Dentist said plan a day without plate as they send it out .
Wife had both dentures for close to 40+ years and wore them all the time except to clean them twice a day . My dentist says take them out at night -no 24 hour wearing .

My Dad and Mother in Law both wore theirs 23 of 24 hours a day, slept in them where had out to clean or to see dentist or when ill.  For the initial fit and to establish if can handle this was told wear full time all time except to clean, will likely follow my Dad's lead.  Dad only had upper as I do. MIL had both and no issue.  My own is to get soft liner inserts, kind of like shoe inserts but glue in.  Cushion to the gums and jaw and at least twice for first year, potential for a third.  After the gums and jaw restorations are deemed sufficient they will remold my upper jaw and have the permanent denture made, said that one should last years without adjusts.  The ones I have now will become a spare set.

I hate to say it Coke, but you need to see a different dentist.  One who specializes in dentures.  Do you have one of these near you?  https://clickserve.dartsearch.net/link/click?lid=43700059857584136&ds_s_kwgid=58700006625024226&ds_a_cid=661545967&ds_a_caid=12409998141&ds_a_agid=116980347006&ds_a_lid=kwd-1084505736666&&ds_e_adid=75660291957236&ds_e_target_id=kwd-75660506669863&&ds_e_network=o&ds_url_v=2&ds_dest_url=https://www.affordabledentures.com/locations/wi/eau-claire?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=bing&utm_campaign=ACI-ADI_Search_Eau+Claire-WI_22147_ADI-ImplantEagle_Dentures_NonBrnd_Exact&utm_content=Dentures_Gen_Location&source=google_paid&utm_term=dentures%20Eau%20Claire&customer_id=825-129-5070&gclid=48abd04acb9b1075d320b5632ea00495&gclsrc=3p.ds&&msclkid=48abd04acb9b1075d320b5632ea00495&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=ACI-ADI_Search_Eau%20Claire-WI_22147_ADI-ImplantEagle_Dentures_NonBrnd_Exact&utm_term=dentures%20Eau%20Claire&utm_content=Dentures_Gen_Location" rel="nofollow - www.affordabledentures.com
I went to them over 20 years ago and I'm still wearing the same ones.  They fit like a glove and the only problem is when I eat tomatoes or anything that has small seeds.  I do NOT use and denture paste/glue or anything.  They stay in and I can eat corn on the cob or whatever at any time.  You are in there for about an hour and walk out with a mouth full of 'teeth'.  I doubt I'll ever go anywhere else.  The cheapest is (now) $450 and up from there.  I didn't get the most expensive as I didn't know how long they would last at that time.  When these wear out, I'm going back and doing it again.  I'm VERY happy with them!

I can chew steak without them most of the time. usually eat most of the time without them. i'll leave them in when ina resturant tho.

I will not complain of my treatment method. The personnel at this office strive to make it absolutely the best of a worst day. The gals doing my adjustments noted my jaw and gum will change over the next months to a more stable level where the final denture should be a final.

I promised myself i would stay out of this but ted and coke could both be right. Mouths can be very different when you put in an immediate denture. If you have a lot of bone left around your teeth like i bet coke (and mr miller did) it is likely you will need a reline or two within the first year. Ted, i bet you had either less bone around your teeth or less posterior teeth so your ridge was pretty stable already. Usually when you go to a place like affordable dentures or south of the border in south Carolina every thing is done by a denturist. He has extra training but isn't a dentist. There are lots of ways to skin a cat

dr P, you are correct, I had obvious issues with bone in my upper jaw, one abscessed tooth removed several years ago left a large divot, the last one the dentist here performed a BAD Root canal three years ago and then he and his successor tried to conquer a Fistula that returned time and again rather than have that one removed left More Damage.  That one almost made Nasal Passage as to bone loss with teeth either side very well supported.  HOWEVER, with my extraction came the commentary I had deeper roots than had seen prior and xrays had not presented as such where I have four Bone Graft Seed implants to repair those positions.  Bone regrowth will be a adding dimension to my jaw where a permanent denture cannot occur for some time.  My upper jaw line with no teeth is wavy and cratered, to a point is the only way I can get mine managed.

The dentist I had been seeing wanted to do several THOUSANDS of dollars restoration work and totally missed I had two fairly severe abscess that HAD to be attended where both required tooth removal with really impossible to crown over filled teeth otherwise.   I am currently not a candidate for Implant pins as to the amount of bone that needs to recover, that could change in the coming year should those seeds take well and bone grow to fill holes.  The pin supported dentures are the new ticket if can get them as to NO glues needs, easier fit and connect to the jaw, easier to attend but I figure I am stuck with old style pop in as my own Dad had.

Upper dentures aren't too bad and implants are not as predictable in the maxilla as they are in the mandible. Think in 30 years i have done two maxillary implant supported dentures. One was a professional singer and the other was the mother in law of an oral surgeon so she didn't have to pay. There is nothing wrong with using a little adhesive. Glad to see you are having a positive experience. And don't pick on the dentist for missing those two abscesses. A x ray is a two dimensional picture of a three dimensional object. Everyone misses a lot!

The second dentist noted them on the first base xray where expressed how they were visible and showed full extent on the 360 degree xray for my own benefit.  These were notably large enough to see, large dark ovals.  So long as fit is good for the final denture should not even need glue, do not need it currently.

Praising the LORD that I still have most of my natural teeth. Had a bridge put in back in 1966 after I lost two upper front teeth and it is still solid. Dad and Mom both had dentures, Dad's did good, Mom would only wear hers when she went out somewhere.

Ted J :
I kind of wonder as just finding a dentist to take Delta Dental for Medicare in this area wasa chore , Then they paid about 1/2 of the total cost as it seems the extraction cost per tooth was high . Now as everything is suppose to be going to a shape with no swelling and final positioning of old gum line .
The fact I need to glue the dang plate in , ya that ticks me off . The fact by the time I wear the dang thing most of the day it's loose at bedtime .
That is the part where wife kept them in and she only complained she could not eat malts with small seeds as ended up under plates . She had 2 sets throughout her lifetime but had to have them refit a couple times as some point became a sore spot .
Have not had that problem but trying to bite off something with back teeth rather than front is a real problem .

Gal that set up my current Upper denture made certain I understood this one is a Temporary.  Was molded for while Old teeth were still there, the next 10 months will be the settling in with this plate as a Healing time denture where will get Second Mold and a New Permanent Denture at that time.  All of mine was paid for Up Front including second plate.

Total was $6400 if paid as went, $5400 Paid In Full up front.  I had no insurance for this.

Coke, how many teeth do you have on the lower arch? Sounds more like a bite issue than a fit issue

My temp plate does that, dental tech determined Palate height too tall and gum trough being uneven to gums but is typical of temp denture molded with original teeth still in place.  Said the Liner will help that Somewhat, but will require adhesive too until can remold in a year for the actual permanent plate.

Update, still no necessity for Dentugrip stuff, close dimensionally palate to denture holds a reasonably tight lock.  Managed to 'Bite' away pieces of a burrito I made from leftover Mex and soft shells, can easily eat some foods where are a few still a challenge.  Latest visit to Dental office and all is healing well,  only been just over a month since placed.

dr P : have mostly full bottom set - bridge on both sides on molars .
I was unlucky in had 4 first teeth 2 top 2 bottom I never got and them 1st teeth failed around 22 years of age /
Dentist sent me to a specialist and his idea was to remove bridges and supporting teeth and get a lower plate also, or a partial  - NO THANKS will work with what I have for now.
Reason on upper was 2 bridges there - supporting teeth gave out after being 60 years since bridge was placed over teeth . Then K nine teeth ended up with a infection - Dentist said antibiotic would not work and extraction was only way .

Sounds like finding the right size can be tricky. I'd take one of the old ones to match it up properly. A little grinding shouldn't hurt if it's just a minor fit issue.

Permanent Plate been in Since November, fits better than previous and not needing liners so far. Can still Roll It Off when chew something tough or pull it away with something Sticky but is working extremely well for me. CoWorker got his temp upper, then got ill and the plate fit changed, has been back to his doc where they plan a Liner in a few weeks and then he has all lowers pulled, pins installed and a temp plate set there. Frustrates him some but is feeling better of it as time goes by.

Is defined a Learning Curve for general eating but quite manageable for myself.
