Hello, everybody... I posted in another location that I am writing a fiction book about tractor pulling. In my fictional tractor pull, there are 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive, and crawler classes. One of my characters drives an HD-16 in the pull, competing against a Caterpillar D7 and an International TD-18. The HD-16 has a torque converter, and I think that should give it an advantage. So I have a few questions. I've seen some pictures and videos of the operating station, but not very good ones.... 1. Is the tall lever on the left the clutch lever? Is it forward-disengage, rearward-engage? 2. Does the torque converter model have the clutch lever too, or just the straight drive model? 3. I see the torque converter transmission has three gears/speeds. I'm under the assumption that first gear would be the one to use. Is this shifter on the floor like the one on the straight drive machine? yes converter tractors had the tall clutch lever until the powershift models came out. fwd is disengage rearward is engaged first gear would give maximum push yes shift lever is same position and lever as gear drive machines just would not have the high low lever next to operator seat converter tractors turned 100 engine rpm more than direct drive machines to compensate for converter slip dont have my book with me but it has speeds, maximum pull etc ------------- Me -C,U,UC,WC,WD45,190XT,TL-12,145T,HD6G,HD16,HD20 Dad- WD, D17D, D19D, RT100A, 7020, 7080,7580, 2-8550's, 2-S77, HD15 |

Thanks, that helps. there is some data on Tractordata.com for the HD-16, so I was able to get some info from there. This will help it seem a little more authentic.
