We spent the day today attending calling hours, funeral and an after-funeral celebration of life for a 52-year-old family friend.

Last week she mentioned that she had a headache that wouldn't go away. Thursday night they (her and her husband) went to bed. He was awakened by her vomiting during the night.  She quickly became unresponsive. He called 911 for an ambulance.

At the hospital, it was determined that she had a brain aneurysm that had ruptured. It was later determined that she had no brain activity.

She was kept alive on life support for a couple reasons; Saturday was her youngest daughter's 19th birthday (who is the best friend of one of my granddaughters), plus she had always said that, if the unthinkable was to happen, she wanted to donate any viable organs.

During the night Saturday night, the "transplant team" arrived and was able to harvest her heart, kidneys, liver and corneas. (We know that three people had received transplants, so far.)

My reasons for posting this are threefold:
1. Always remember that life can change drastically faster than a blink of an eye. Before you have a senseless argument with a loved one, think about how quickly life can change forever.
2. If you would like to make a similar gift of life by donating organs, make sure you sign up to be an organ donor and make sure your loved ones are aware of your wishes.
3. I'm sure her family could use prayers.

Know three people personally that happened to. That takes you quick no questions asked most of the time. I know one woman who survived it, was a relatively small one and got to an ER right away.

Your point is spot on! Hold your family and other loved ones close and dear.

Prayers for her family. None of us are guaranteed our next breath. Hold your loved ones close and tell them you love them.

Curt, prayers for you and your friends family.  Every time I hang up the phone, it's "Love you".  You may never get a second chance to do so.
This happened to a good friend of my sisters.  They were in 7th or 8th grade.  She was at out house and had a splitting headache and laid on our couch for a few minutes then walked home.  (only a little ways)  An hour later we got the news....

I'm very, very sorry to hear about this Curt...

Basically same thing happened to a 12 year old niece of a close friend back in May... she was in the yard, playing with the family dog... fell down in convulsions, and lost within a half hour.  Life support kept her body going.  7 children got the gift of new life from her loss, but it's hard for the family of the little girl, particularly her older brother.

These things happen fast, and hit hard, because we think it cannot happen... Cry

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

The good part of this is that several of us (including her husband and daughter) have signed up to be organ donors. I, personally, am looking into donating my body to science. Maybe some people will live on with the donations she, and others, have signed up to donate.
