Hello group!

I'm trying to resurrect a JD 350 (I believe) Sickle mower and hook it to my series IV D17

The mower has only 1/2 of the pto shaft. It appears to have a 1" square shaft that has been removed from the machine, and I need to know how to go about either getting a new shaft or a piece that will slide in and hook to the tractor.

Never did anything like this before, so any help would be appreciated

Thanks!

what your looking for is a square shaft maybe 30 inches long, with a YOKE on the end of it that will accept a U-joint.... then you need the right size U-joint... and another YOKE that goes from the U-joint to a 6 groove 1-3/8 coupler with spring pin that will attach to your PTO shaft...

Be careful ... the SHAFT can be 1 x 1-1/8 .... 1-1/4 square... or other.. You got to check both dimensions to see if it is SQUARE or RECTANGLE... Here is an example of what you need.. I think this "SERIES 12" is 1 x 1-1/8 inch ......... a series 14 is somewhat larger... etc.. If you know what the ACTUAL dimension is, we can give you the exact PN.... or you can study on this site..

the SIZE of the square shaft / U-joint determine how much HP it can handle.. The smaller 1 or 1-1/8 sizes might only be 35 HP  .... and 1-1/4 shaft might be 65 HP... keep that in mind.

a simplier option might be an entire new shaft.. You get the 6 spline adaptor to the tractor PTO shaft, the square drive  external slip tube, and the YOKE that attaches to your mower... all you have to know is WHAT it attaches to on  the mower.. Many are a 1- 3/8 inch ROUND shaft, with a bolt thru the shaft to attach... others have splines, or could even be square shaft...... something like this below would be COMMON and very economical............ you have to know the LENGTH and the YOKE size of the mower..

(this comes with a plastic tube "guard" over the shaft so you really cant see the SQUARE shaft and the TUBE it slides into)...

Wow, thanks for that!
This is my first go-around with this type of thing so any info is appreciated. I think you may be right, it just may be easier to buy a whole shaft.

I will post what I find. I appreciate your reply
