I’m fairly new to Gleaner rotary combines, as we’ve run L2s for the last 30 years. We recently picked up an early R62 and I’m going through it and getting it ready to use. I figured it would be a good idea to change oil in the rotor gearbox. I only put around 1.5 quarts in before it started coming out of the street elbow on the side. Is that all it takes? My manual says it should take about 2.5 quarts, but I’m wondering if the manual is not correct. Thanks

No, it takes just over a qt. Maybe qt and a half. We use the 80-90 SYNTHETIC in the squeeze tube like package - makes it ez w/o funnel. ALSO. On one of our units we tapped - tee'd' -into the auger swing cylinder return hose with a .003 approx orifice - ran a tube to the gearbox drain and then with a one way check valve ran a hose back and tee'd into the reservoir return - now it changes oil about every day and the tad of oil that goes in every dump cools the gearbox as well as the oil has sat in the hose for several minutes.
------------- When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..

Thanks for confirming that. I put 75W-90 synthetic oil in, hopefully that will be fine. Your automatic oil change idea sounds interesting, thanks for sharing.
