That took some fabricating. I wonder how that would ride? I’ve seen guys reverse the front axle, but I’ve never seen them do a modification like this.

Some short-line company made those (maybe not that one) many years ago that you swapped out the center tube for a repositioned one and then used your old knees. Seems like the square tube was just ahead of the rear pivot point instead of behind it.

how far forward was the axle moved... i had a hard time seeing much difference ?

Like I say, the square tube is ahead of the rear pivot, so I think it was about a 10 inch extension of wheelbase.

Any ideas on why this was done? As the Doc has said a company did more than just one or two.   As ride quality was already mentioned, from experience a little bit makes a lot of difference.

There was a good sized construction company here in California build 1000's of miles of highway.  They became the go to for concrete paving for a time. But after a few years all the expansion joints became high spots. Some vehicles rode much, much better than other many times just to due with the wheel base. Many a independent trucker specked trucks the with the wheel base that gave less bucking rolling over the expansion joints. I was told just 2 inches more or less made a huge difference. The state spend a fortition  planning the concrete for years. Finally in the last 20 years all has been replaced with asphalt concrete.

We had a 8070 in the early 90s that we turned the front axle around on and made it look like that. Dont remember why we did it but I think it was to get clearance for saddke tanks. Wasnt ideal but it worked

If I'm thinking right DAKON mfg. made those kits to increase wheelbase. John Day Co. in Omaha was one of their distributors. I have the literature piece , just have to find it.,  Mike

Oddly, my buddies Ford 8600’s are like that. He flips every one of his around for shorter wheelbase and a tighter turning radius.
