the other morning arriving at coffee in town at 0400, in the parking lot was an aluminum racing jack and handle just laying there. i picked it up and put in my truck, figgered some dorkfish or even a normal person would either trip over it, drive on it and do some damage to their vehicle, then try to sue the place I found it. soooooooo.....this morning a worker at this place asked if I had that jack yet? I said yeah, they said the owner called and wants it back! I guess i'll leave it in the truck and if he shows up when i'm there, i'll give him his jack depending on his attitude. not gonna make any special trip into town.

right, ask him the make/model info...see if he can describe an obvious 'special mark' on it..

come to think of it., maybe that's the one I left on the ground while sorting stuff out in the truck  !!!!

please ship it to me, prepaid of course !!
thank you

Have to agree with Jay. If it's his he knows it. And I don't blame you, I wouldn't make a special trip either. If nothing else he could come to me or the closest convenience store if you don't want him at your house

I have no idea what Joe would do. Once I picked up a plumbers acetylene torch at a highway crossover. A few minutes later a guy pulls up to me in a parking lot wanting his torch back. I asked him if he would like to explain to the police why he lost a hazmat item from his truck and why he didn't have hazmat ID on he truck. Youda thought the christmas tree at the dragstrip just turned green the way he took off.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

Well, Shameless,,,,if you are talking bout my HONESTY, worry yourself NO MORE,,,,!! I would take that nice aluminum jack,,That I been sorely needing for the longest seein as how my old arthritic back keeps reminding me to go and buy an aluminum jack and stop using all them yard sale specials thast weigh a ton EACH,,,,,!!!  There-in lies your answer!!!!
I would load it up Quick, taking care to NOT look too guilty and drive by the local Constable's office,,,take notice that there does not appear to be anybody present (It being Sunday) THEN thinking bout coming back later I go home and unload the purdy aluminum jack and go ahead and stash ,,,errrr I meant put it in garage so some hooligan don't come by and STEAL it. Since the owner does NOT come by to claim it,,,,,for a week, I figure it falls under the Finder's Keepers doctrine,,,,
SO,,,,now you know Ole Buddy,,,,and,,,,and,,,I know you already knew what my response would be BUT,,,,BUT,,I notice "YOU" didnt take the one you found to the local Constable's office either and you also know where that office is,,don;t you,,,,?????LOLLOLLOLLOL

Used to pick up tools from oilfield lease roads all the time. Some guys claimed that ‘is bad form’ to keep what others let carelessly bounce out/off of trucks. One time found a pair of 30” aluminum pipe wrenches, couple days later was at a customer about a 1/2 mile from where I found them, he asked me if I picked up a couple pipe wrench’s down the road a couple days ago? I said yes, got one with me now, gave one away to a coworker. I gave him the one I had(didn’t need it), he was perturbed I gave the other one away.

Did that when lived in OK in 81 Lars, picked up an entire Job Box exploded on the road as it hit solid.  Several days later there was a sheriff looking for a Tool Box Thief so showed him the box and the pile of damaged goods, still filthy from the road hit, named the spot it hit pavement and he went looked.  Came back hour later was expecting arrest but he handed me the stuff I forgot to pick up. Said was another a half mile further on in the weeds, SAW that one fall from the SAME Company's truck and did not ever slow.  NOT pressing charges nor asking for their stuff back and he left.  Forgot to add, did NOT get the second one.

I once found a Jackson large window welding hood and 50 lbs of 70/18 rod on the side of the road. Of course they fell off my truck.
Hood was ruined and a lot of rod lost and a lot destroyed.
Found a handyman Jack once too.

Nephew found an 044 Stihl Chainsaw laying in the road. Needed a new handle and carb cover, other than that it ran fine! I found a 1/2" log chain in the field I was plowing where the Oil Field workers left it. My Dad said it was so heavy they left it so that they didn't have to handle it!

Found a rockwell corded hand planer, in its metal case, once at a gas station island, advertised it as found on crag's list, no response...  Another time I found a Wacker gas generator, up-side-down on a concrete island.  I did a Rockford u turn, for that one! likewise advertised, but unanswered.  Mine now...Wink

Having been in situation where door latches failed on my service truck, I've lost a few things, fortunately nothing serious... but being around hard working tradesmen, when I see it happen, I do the best I can to get their tools and materials back to them.

There's times when that just isn't possible, on account that the items are there, and there's nobody, and no clue as to whom they belong.

IF someone comes up and asks me if I'd found something they lost, and they can identify the item and where they might've lost it, I make sure it gets back into their hands...  because it is part of their livelyhood.

My WAG is that if there's a jack sitting on the ground in a parking lot, it's probably there because some feller had to help someone with installing a spare tire in the middle of the night, and once the work was done, forgot to load it back in, and didn't see it in the dark.  It happens...

THAT'S IT!!!  Tyler and Thad is on my list now! yeah Dave, that's what I was thinking too...I did take it back and put it beside the building, so far no one has re-picked it up nor has the dude that wants it back so bad been to pick it up, if it's still there in the morning, i'll grab it again! it;s a nice little jack, about a hunert dollars at HF if it's even from there.

OK,,Shameless,,,I "KNEW" you was eventually gonna wind up wantin to sell to some unsuspecting and "Honest" member here,,,,but,,,,but,,,I ain't gonna fall for such blanten skuldrudgery,,,,what I will do is offer $46.37 for that old jack,,,,I'm thinking it don't even WORK and is why the owner left it there a'purpose, so he wouldn't have to haul it to the dump,,,,,,??WinkWink
