I recently purchased a 170 and i'm having an issue with the lift arms settling, it takes about 5 minutes to settle, running or not. Any help would be appreciated, THANKS ------------- 175D 170D 170G D17 (2)D15 WD45 |

I'd start by looking at the linkages that go from control valves down to the lower 2 arms on 3 point. These get rusted and don't move freely. On controls you've 3 levers to front and 2 smaller levers behind them, try moving the 2 fully forward and back, mine are ussually fully forward. Make sure all levers & linkages can move freely. I soak all moving points on mine down with penetrant at least yearly. ------------- AC 200, CAH, AC185D bareback, AC 180D bareback, D17 III, WF. D17 Blackbar grill, NF. D15 SFW. | Standing behind the tractor, locate the valve section that operates the 3-point hitch. This valve section is easily identified by the hydraulic lines that connect it to the lift cylinders. On the rear of this valve section is a small "tee" handle on the end of a spool. Take a good sized punch with a 1/2" end on it and smack right on the end of that spool a couple of times with a hammer. Then, take a pliers and tighten it as hard as you can. It will tighten just like a nut on a bolt. If it tightens at all, that may be enough to solve your complaint. The degree of smacking has its limits, so if you break the valve on the tractor, your problem, not mine. A settling 3-point hitch is internal leakage of the hydraulic valve section, not any external linkage problem. If you have oil dripping on the ground, then that is your problem, but you don't say that. DO NOT expect this hitch to hold any kind of load up in the air indefinitely !! Not going to happen !! You also don't say settling with a load or not a load ?? So, what is it ?? |

There are 2 or 3 pivot points under the console. If any one of them is seized, it will give problems. You have to reach them by hand to make sure the all move freely. Even better to take them off, clean, coat with antiseize and reinstall. | Lift arms settling have NOTHING to do with any of the Traction Booster or Position Control linkages. Settling lift arms are an internal leak of the lift arms spool valve. |

So I put a heavy back blade on and after playing around with the linkages and tapping on that T handle a little and raising and lowering the arms for a while I did notice a little leakage out of both of the Hydraulic rams. This ONE SEVENTY is an older gas model and on the bottom of each ram there is a port, (they are not on my 170D or 175D) and that's where it's leaking from. I'm guessing that would be my problem so should I have both cylinders rebuilt? ------------- 175D 170D 170G D17 (2)D15 WD45 |
