I'm replacing a Delco #1107043 starter armature in my Allis B.  Trying to remove the old gear, spring and lug to put on new armature that I purchased from Romaine Electric - WI for $65.

The lug (see white tape in picture) is not sliding off easily.  Appears that the key should not be a problem.  Have been persuading with hammer and block of wood in vice - with lube. Any suggestions?  Would trying to expand lug with MAP torch hurt anything? Thinking might be a metal burr in there.

hard to get in there and hit with a block of wood... how about taking two 1/4 inch straps and setting between the windings and the gear... turn it upside down and set  across open jaw vise... then tap on the end of the shaft......... something like a gear puller..

i dont see why heat would hurt, but a good even distributed THUMP might work.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

something like this... but if you dont have a bearing puller, two 1/4 inch plates should work.. hold together with tape for a third hand..

Thanks Steve.  The two steel plates worked great.

I used to just use a couple of open end wrenches, basically doing the same thing.  Works wonders!
