Subject: 7060 PTO won't stay engaged

So my son hooked up his hay cutter to the 7060, and the PTO will not stay engaged. He checked the pressure at the PTO control valve and had 375 PSI. I am not sure if that is sufficient, or even has any bearing on the situation. Any ideas where to start?

Standby pressure keeps the pto engaged as you already know. Doc says 600 psi so thats most likely your problem

I have seen the bracket under the console on your right that holds the PTO cable get a little play in it and it won’t let the cable travel enough to keep it engaged
Check that also that bracket needs to be rigid

I've beefed up many of those PTO cable brackets, as they often get bent when operators shut off the PTO quickly, forcing the cable to bend the bracket. If the PTO lever doesn't fully pull the spool 100% into engagement, the lever will not lock into gear. So, be sure things are adjusted properly.

a long time ago, Bill from sandy lake told me to adjust the cable for engaging the pto. it solved the problem then and a couple years ago on my 7045 and 7020. but it like everthing else I can't remember what he told me. but maybe it will cause some one else to remember, possibly. like what to do, when the lift arms on a 170-185 will not go down. i can remember it is simple but time consuming to take apart and put back together.

I haven't had a chance to look at this myself yet, but I told my son to go down on the PTO control valve, and give the spool a little extra pull with a pry bar or screwdriver, or whatever works. He did that, and now he says that it stays in like it should. Pretty sure though, that sooner rather than later, we'll have to do some tweaking to make it have a little longer pull.
