In November I had retina surgery in my left eye. In February I had cataract surgery on the same eye, waited a month and got new glasses. Had the glasses reevaluated and got a second set of lenses with no improvement. Im seeing double and straight lines aren't. Monday I had a checkup with my retina surgeon and made sure everyone there knew I was having trouble. He says one of the retina tears went clean thru the Macula! Nothing can be done about this! Says my vision is better than expected after that happens-usually no better than 20/70 mine is 20/30! He says my brain will have to adjust to this! As a trim carpenter this is way beyond difficult. Not getting head aches but it is physically zapping my strength! Im 58 years old, have never done anything else, could not be a supervisor as my reading and computer time is very difficult. I feel defeated, especially after having that gas bubble in my eye for 10 weeks only to find out it almost worked! ------------- Greg Kroeker 1950 WD with wide front and Freeman trip loader |

| Sorry to hear of your troubles with this condition. Difficult I'm sure but give the docs advice some time and hopefully things will improve. When you say reading and computer time is difficult do you mean vision wise or your computer skills need work? Believe me those skills improve the more you do it. When I left the field and took up inspection work I had reservations about the desk part of it. Ain't that hard to learn. Especially if you have good people around you. Wish you well |

I just went thru the same thing. Torn retina on left eye. Very sudden. Sure catches you off guard. Mine was end of October. So my left eye is back to 20/30 same as yours and rt eye is 20/25. I use corrective glasses now for driving although I don't have to. It does help in my case. I am finding that it affects balance a bit with the eyes being different. Disconcerting overall but I have continued with my regular routine so far. I do a bit of commercial driving and a fair bit of mechanical and maintenance work. Good luck.

| I had a comparable eye condition and an in a similar career where vision is everything. You are going to get better. I did a couple of things that seemed to help me. I focused on getting my good eye as healthy and corrected as possible. Sice you have limited focus over distance, you need to get an eye doctor who can measure your working distance and have a set of corrective lenses made to that distance. You will need to carry a couple of pairs of glasses then which is a pain but you get use to it. Also see if the can add magnification. You got want a lot start with 2.0x. I use orascopic out of Madison but they have reps everywhere |

| Makes my issues look like nothing Greg, hang in there as the brain does adjust for a bad eye, my own left eye is a hosed up mess, normal vision had been as bad as 20/100 and uncorrectable. Over the years my head adjusted to where it pretty well ignored the 'Bad' eye then some 35 years later had cataract fully develop and got replacement lens where while there the Ophthalmologist laser trued my cornea as much as could, no uncorrectable is at 20/40-20/50. Brain still mostly ignores it where cataract in good eye erupted, another lens and although have considerable floaters is 20/20 without glasses. |

It can be really frustrating to not be able to do things as well as you did in the past but hang in there. You can handle the supervisor position if you set your mind to it. Just keep in mind that if God closes one door He is opening one to something better. Speaking of multiple pairs of glasses, I flew with a veteran Vietnam pilot who carried 3 pairs, one for reading the instruments, one for reading the map and looking outside. He kept our entire crew from getting killed one day when a younger pilot screwed up. Experience means a lot. ------------- Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God. |

Greg I’ve been working my whole life with a be eye. It will take time to get used to. I know it’s gonna make things a little different. You can do what you need but it will take patients. I m sending prayers your way. |
