replace the V regulator on my 770 ( I know, wrong color) with a new one from AGCO. HUGE difference, you cant even take cover off new one. It is riveted on there. Anyhow, at wide open throttle it is showing 14.38-14.45 volts on a voltmeter at battery. This seems a bit high to me, but it goes no higher, and half throttle is around 13.5 volts. Any thoughts?? I am just a little gun shy after having the battery blow up on me last friday while mowing

A properly working charging system, at full electrical load, should read 14.6 volts. Technically, you are a bit low-but not enough to be concerned!

For a battery at 68 F and with a full charge specific gravity of 1260, 14.20 is optimum. The optimum voltage goes up for both lower and higher temperatures. That .18 volt difference you see on your meter is just 1.27% and I expect your meter accuracy is more like 5% so you can't be sure its so wrong just because it displays that many digits.

The acid (hiss) test is an ammeter on the battery circuit. If the battery current gets to zero in a while the charging voltage isn't too high. If the battery current never gets to zero (and the battery isn't old and sulfated), the charging voltage is too high.
