I was plowing with a neighbor’s pull type plow and notice the tail wheel is being drug sidewise in the furrow. Why is this happening? It behaves normally when the plow is out of the ground.

Is that how it's made? No load on it just dragging along? Maybe it's the design. Maybe to get it out of the way when tripped that's all they could come up with?

Is the mount that holds it bent or slightly bent? I struggled with a brush hog for over a year trying to figure out why the tail wheel drug sideways vs. rolled when it was lowered. Turns out the mounting was bent and caused the wheel to go sideways when lowered.

What brand of plow? Some had a lock on the wheel to keep it straight, sometimes this would get loose and turn, sometimes if the plow was tripped into the ground while turning the guide would miss and the wheel would run crooked.

I know the john deer 3-14 trailer plow I have has a pin at the top of the tail wheel linkage, that keeps the TW straight for road transport. Pull the pin, and it follows the furrow. Might also be how the drawbar is set, and how the plow is adjusted...

It is a JD so it may simply be laying down on the job! The plow is not adjusted to take a full cut with the furrow wheel riding partially up out of the furrow. I’ll check to see how it works with his Case. I’m thinking something is out of wack with the trailer wheel.

Define sideways….some models the tail wheel is set with “some” lead, to steer into the unplowed ground.

In the furrow. No thread running in the same direction of the furrow. The wheel is being drug sidewise.
