Loosen all four eccentrics on the wheel, hold the brake on the opposite wheel, use the the engine and tranny to spin the hub in the direction you want, to extend the wheel. Getting the eccentrics loose is sometimes a problem if they haven't been work in years. If that is the case you might end up disassembling the rim from the wheel center to clean and soak the rusted parts. BWGILL - do you know if it's a Series III or Series IV D17 - those will be much easier as the rim clamps for the rails are much improved. Also at least one of the rails should have holes in it for stops on each side of the center. You'll have to remove those. The bolts can break off in those if they have rusted and been sitting a while so spray some good penetrating oil and maybe use some heat on them if they they don't seem to want to turn. You don't loosen any bolts. There is an eccentric lock that cams up against the rail on the rim. All 4 of these need to be backed off about 180 degrees to free the rail. Then the rail can slide through the four forgings that contain the eccentrics. Look at the wheel center. On the outside diameter of the wheel center there are 4 forgings bolted to the wheel center. On the outer part of these forgings is one hex centered in the forging. That is what needs to be turned to the left about 180 degrees. There is a small protrusion from the base of the nut that limits the travel. Since your tractor is a series III, it should have the single bolt through the eccentric. Loosen all four, one side of the tractor at a time...do not remove nuts or bolts. Start the tractor, put the tractor in low gear or reverse (depends on which wheel you are moving) and hold the opposite brake. The earlier wheels, prior to series III had the cast design (no nuts to loosen). Good luck.
