I am going to look at a 7020 with 5500 hrs on the clock.
The owner describes the transmission as a powershift but he
is not sure about it other than that. The tractor hasn't had any
use in several years.
Is there a way to test the transmission and clutches without
putting a load on it.If the brakes hold I would normally just
try to stall it to see if the clutchs hold. Will that work well enough?
If I can find a decent tractor with a cab and 3 pt my D17
Wheatland will be for sale.

Drive it up a very steep hill in a fast gear.
If the trans starts growling....you'll know!

Drive in HIGH range at full throttle and upshift thru each gear one-at-a-time. Each shift will be crisp except 3rd to 4th and it is normally the smooothest. 5th to 6th should hit pretty hard.  Try backing up in HIGH reverse using the inching pedal and it takes considerable engine power to get it to get moving. All normal traits.

Thanks for the advice.I have never had much to do with the 7000 tractors . A cab is
becoming a necessity however.
