| I have a d15 series 1 tractor with a starter problem. With the starter out, it appears the gear is not retracted as it should be. When testing with 12 volts, the gear spins extracted, but doesnt retrack when voltage is removed. Could this be a simple problem or is it going to need replaced or repaired. I assume the gear should move in and out, Right? This is a delco remy starter 1107548. Any help would be appreciated. |

have you tried spraying penetrant oil on the shaft the gear rides on ?... then push it in and out with a screw driver / etc... eventually it should rotate in and out freely. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

I did try that. It seemed to slide easier when out of the starter, but when I put it back together it was still stiff and would hang up. Could push it in with a screw driver, but not easily. |

not free enough yet.. You should be able to spin it out with a finger ... and back in the same...... if you have it disassemble, wire brush the shaft... possibly you have a little rust on the parts ? ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

While you have it out take the nose cone and drive out, and dis-assemble. Look at the forward bushing. Is it egged out? Any cracks in the nose cone? Did this issue just start ,how did it work last time you started the tractor .
If you have this style drive and it is out ,like Mack said after engine starts the speed of engine will kick it out of ring gear .  back in  ------------- He who dies with the most toys is, nonetheless ,still dead. If all else fails ,Read all that is PRINTED. Just because you do not have the tools for job , it dose not make it a bad design. |
