Hi
Do you know why there is a difference on the indexing area on the 2 differents rod on the ED40 gear box, the same for D12 and othrers. May be the same for other tractors. ( D10, D12, D14, CA, may be?)

On the 1st / 4th shift rod there is a flat area between the 2 indexing hole
No flat on the 2nd / 3rd shift  rod

Why this difference?

Might be there because the flat spot is used to index tooling, so the hole below is exaxtly paralel to the notches above...

May be, but the 2 rods seem to work the same way, with a ball to do the indexing. So a hole is suitable and with a greater depth for the ball. So a stronger indexing in position. What would avoid the gear jumping out , may be?
