I just started to restore this planter and I need just a little help. I need to know what color the sheet metal was. I know the main body and wheels are yellow, but the seed hopper is pure rust. It was made in 1909 so if some collector out there has an old sales catalog you maybe the greatest help. All I have been able to find are black and white images. If you know please get in touch.

Thanks Dennis

Is that the one you thought was an E.P. Allis?

No Ted, I am done with the E.P. Allis planter. I found an automatic potato planter a few mile away that I'm fixing up. I talked to the company they sent me a copy of 2 old sales catalogs of the potato equipment they made years ago. The catalogs are in black & white so it realy doesn't help with the colors.  The only thing that Champion can tell me is that the main body or the frame is school bus yellow.  Be low is an image from the catalog that Champion sent me, it's also the same planter that I'm working on. Thanks

Dennis,

I am glad to hear you restoring your Champion planter. The sheet metal on our #22 had some faded yellow on it years ago. My dad rode the planter when he was 8. He was born in 1924. His dad drove the horses and he put the potatoes in the cup when needed. We still use the planter.
Please email me pictures when you project is complete. I am including pictures of our planter and our digger (Champion No.9).

              Berst wishes, Mark
