These have been a curiosity item for me for some time. Two downsides; (1) They take up a lot of space in a shed and I'd hate to let a nice one sit outside. (2) My level of patients doesn't go well with having to stop every 50 feet or so.

Never say never though. If I get retired in a few years I might have enough time to develop more/better patients.

Believe someone in MN has a NOS Roto Baler still in boxes that has never been put together. Overheard someone saying that the owner was going to assemble it. Another person chimed in that they should leave it as is. Plenty of assembled roto baler around. Don't see too many in new boxes

Generally speaking, I am very short on patience, but that being said, ironically, roto baling is one of my most favorite things to do.

Two non whitetop balers  have sold in the last month at auction for over $2000.00. With the twelve balers I have it could add up to some real cash.

My uncle was "rammy" with his rotobaler. Wheelie off when the bale kicked and slide to a stop when the arm dropped. That 45 was snappy. ( M&W's)Wink

Having operated a Rotobaler from age 14 until about 50, there is a knack to operate one.
First, the baler has to be greased and lubricated, knife sharp, twine tension right, latches
clean, adjustments made correctly on pull rods.  I have baled on a good day, over 1,000
bales in 8 hours.  My brother still bales with one every summer.  It is the same baler that Dad bought used in 1964.  For the low budget farmer, they are still a good baler.
My 2 cents.

We had a case square baler 1960,s when I was growing up . My father was a dairy farmer with very little time on his hands. That case baler would pick the worst times to break down and usually wait a day or two for parts. He got fed up and found a white top that looked brand new. He claimed that they used to have a roto baler before I was around. Only got rid of it because no one wanted to buy the little round bales when they had extra. It would usually take him a little bit to get it fine tuned every year but when he got rolling there was no stopping him . Bales were lighter but a little more awkward to work with. The cows would go to a round bale before they would eat square baled hay .I can remember rolling out straw for bedding and it was easier than squares

Thats good money for a regular 1950s Roto baler!

The D15 with the 150 corn picker only brought $3000!!!!  A low price for such a unique and rare item.  I have seen D17s with 170 and 190 pickers sell for three times that and there are a considerably less 150s out there.

yeah, same here. i get lucky if i get 2:30 to 7. I thought the prices in general for this spring were a little on the low side. The 150 was cheap but would be a bear to transport.

Too bad you couldn't get one of these with net-wrap!

Just kidding, I really hate that stuff.

Of the twelve balers all but one is field ready. I have the original baler that my dad bought in 1950, it has baled several 100000s of bales. In the late sixties  and early seventies the local farmers were switching to square balers and nobody wanted the roto balers in trade, so they said if you want you can have it. All are stored in a   good pole building with cocrete floor. Up until 2021 we baled at least 4500 bales a year. My sons have taken over the cow herd and now bale most of the  hay with  a Hesston big round baler. They are still baling straw with the roto balers, making 72 straight years of roto baling on our farm.

Jim Sherman I am not a betting man…BUT I’ll bet y’all are holding a world record baling with them Roto’s. Especially when you told me the normal weight per bale was 70 some pounds!!!! You surely have pushed them to a level of use which I’ve never ever heard of before!

The way that our calving season is going, (lots of pairs ending up in the barn due to the weather, and thus eating roto bales) I am going to have to (ok, get to) make some more rotos this summer to restock the barn!

my winter project this year has been the reclamation of converted # 10 roto baler. Pulled it out of a hedge row where it sat for 20 years. I had a delusion I could just replace the broken belts , free up the brake, lube it up real good and go. Much thanks to mack and Paul B who were polite enough not to call me a moron. On their advice, I disassembled everything except the gear box, cleaned out the fossilized grease, replaced a bunch of frozen or worn out parts (thanks mike z) and should have it ready for a trial run this spring. Was really surprised to locate all the electric parts to make the overdrive work but I think I will just they to get it working conventionally this year and try for the fancy stuff next year. And my daughter complains I never buy any modern farm equipment.
