I am working on my grandfathers AC 7580. He purchased this tractor brand new and we have had it my entire life so from a sentimental value I have kept it. The drive shaft broke about 10 years ago and proceeded to bend the shifter rod that comes out of the back of the transmission when the drive shaft snapped. This has allowed hydraulic oil to leak out to the point it isn't operable. I spoke with my local experts and at the time suggested that it would require pretty much taking the cab, engine, drop box, and the entire transmission apart and that was more money than economical to fix. I have a gentleman that is helping me work on equipment now and we are going to try to bend it back to where we can maybe get the seal to hold. I have a parts 7580 machine that I can pull what I need to off of but lack in tools and shop equipment to pull apart a tractor of the 7580 size. Has anyone ever had success with bending a shifter or is there maybe a trick that we are not aware of to get the rod out and put another in?

You're gonna have to be waaay more specific than that. A driveshaft breaking and a shifter rod don't have anything to do with each other. How about the TOP driveshaft breaking ?? and the shaft that drives the driveshaft is now bent ???

Are you talking about the park or high/low shift rail on the back of the dropbox?

Man, it's been too long since I've looked at one of those old girls. I see the rails he's talking about in the drop box. I don't know if you could straighten one or not. Got to be awfully straight to work in and out.

you can pull the rear dropbox cover without taking the cab off. its a tight fit but it will just slip up through the battery box area under the cab. we pulled it this way to change out the splined coupler that stripped that drives the hyd pumps and pto to rear end. if you can find the replacement shift rod, id cut it off and go that way

thinking on it more, there is a cover on bottom of drop box, it may be possible to get to that shift rod connection from the bottom without pulling anything. the high/low is actuated on the bottom shaft of the dropbox. pretty sure the park pawl does as well
just checked the parts book. the outer shaft is the park pawl actuator shaft. the inner is the high/low shift fork. If this was mine i would sure be pulling the bottom cover to see about getting that shaft disconnected. huge time and labor saver if possible
