We’re getting a new airport terminal in KC. Flew home last night and walked the tunnel of the old. Been a frequent flyer my entire career (40+) and did some math. Think I’ve landed here well over a thousand times! Been a lot of places…. One day trips to New York, Seattle, Miami, San Diego. Been to every State and most more than once. Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, UK, Ireland, Germany, Cologne, Paris, Normandy, Budapest, Austria, Scotland, Frankfurt…..wish I knew how many hours I’ve lived at 30k feet! Fly out for Seattle on Tuesday when our new terminal opens.

Wow, you're a real road (fly) warrior. I remember when they built the old one. it was unique and convenient. Not much on amenities by today's standards. So, this will be our 3rd terminal since we've been here. Fortunately, it's the same old runways. Not sure if any of it is left over from the TWA days. I worked on the 24th floor downtown and when they landed at old Municipal Airport downtown the planes came in over the river pretty low. Pilots were paying attention & the records show it.

Not many people still around that have used the old KC downtown airport. Been there a couple times when I was in the Navy 1952-1956. Nice weather so no big concern. Herb(GA)

Dad worked there in the 1950s, told story of the floods, having to clean the hangers and bring tools back in, engines ruined from being immersed for days. Several times dead animals inside the buildings worst being a bloated dead hog, went to push it out of building with a tractor where it just flowed apart with rot and stink. He and Uncle worked for Slick Airlines.

That would have been down at the first airport which was just across the river from downtown KC. Newer airport went in in the 1970's up near Platte City and now those terminals being replaced with one big one. The flood you're referencing is the 1951 flood where the KAW (Kansas River) flooded into the Missouri river. The confluence of the two are right by that old airport. My Dad and my Grandparents lost pretty much everything they owned in that flood. They watched their house float down the river. Dad did find his grandfathers shotgun (been restored and I now own) as well as some tools/ toolboxes. The things that didn't float away were covered in several feet of Missouri river mud.

Well, the hoopla is winding down, media seems to think things went well. On time & on budget-what more can you asked for? Now the teardown of the 2 old terminals begins, wonder where they'll haul it? Airlines pay for the new one with fees and the city fronts the bonds.

Flew out again this morning. Was one of first flights out and saw the arrival of first flight in. Didn’t see the new Southwest plane w Missouri logo but looked nice on news. The new terminal is very nice and much larger than it appears from outside. Quite a few nice perks/thinking went into it. Noticed they had changing rooms in the restrooms…..be nice not having to change clothes in a stall! Tons of KC presence with one store looking like the old City Market down by the river!
