          | That was my guess. Manuals I have do not mention power steering. Thanks Dana

          | pretty sure it calls for 20 or 30wt non detergent oil, same as did the hydraulic system at the time, so i would agree with the 821 fluid as well |

          | I run regular 20W John Deere hydraulic oil in my 45D and it seems to work good… Which is equivalent (I think) to the 821 oil.
 I hope this helps……

          | Back in the day, my dad ran SAE 20W-20 in the 1949 WD  year 'round--crankcase, hydraulics, oil bath air cleaner, and after-market Char-Lynn Power Steering unit.  Life was simplier then........... R. Musgrave |

          | Thanks all. I filled with hydrants. New hoses. Man she is some amazing piece of works. This system (1956) steers so much better than my 1961 D19. Seems they went backwards on this one idk. I’d say both of my ps ‘45’s steer as well as my 170 or my 175. But my ‘17 III and 19 both steer inferior to the rest.
