Can anyone identify this machine ? For the last thirty or more years, I see this same tractor at any tractor show I go to. This particular photo was taken at Appalachian Harvest Festival at Renfro Valley, Kentucky, on 07-October-2017.  I think it has a Wisconsin engine. I thought this would be an easy identification; but, when I think I am getting close, I am not even in the ballpark.

looks like an older version of the ECONOMY..... I had a couple POWER KINGS years ago. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Thank You ! I believe you've hit the nail right square on the head ! Either the tractordata guy or some Economy owners have their wires crossed up. In http://www.tractordata.com/lawn-tractors/001/8/2/1828-economy-jim-dandy-14hp-photos.html" rel="nofollow - this example , the tractor has a sign stating it is a 1953 model; while, his information says the first year available is 1968. In http://www.tractordata.com/lawn-tractors/001/8/2/1826-economy-jim-dandy-10hp-photos.html" rel="nofollow - this example , the tractor you pictured says 1961 model; whereas, tractordata says 1964/1965 is first available, depending on whether it is 10hp or 12hp. I wonder who is right.

i think the shape of the HOOD in the front, and the motor size, both changed over time... ECONOMY was the company... Jim Dandy, Power King, and others were the MODELS. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

They started out as 'Economy'... manufactured by an engineering firm in Waukesha in like '46 or so. They changed the name to Economy - Power King sometime after. The early ones' bodywork was basically just a reshaped cooling shroud over the engine, later they extended the shroud back towards the fuel tank, eventually they went to a hood-over-engine design. The components were pretty darned close to off-the-shelf surplus-type driveline and steering gear stuff, but they weren't weak by any means! ------------- Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest. |
