A crawler tractor so big, they had to build an engine to run it

Frank Burke drove past a giant, rusted-out tractor abandoned by the railroad tracks for years, never realizing that it was a 1972 Allis-Chalmers HD-41, first unveiled in the ‘60s as the largest crawler tractor in the world. Two just-in-time rescues and restorations later, “Big Roy” shines bright once again on the antique tractor show circuit and in video footage of the mammoth machine in action.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane Coke. The last picture of Frank Burke look just like my uncle Edgar. My uncle owned and ran AC dozers from 1947 when he got a war surplus AC HD14. Then a new HD 14C when the torc converter drive first came out, then in 72 a 1969 model HD 21. And lastly Fiat-Allis HD 31.

Whan I was looking for a dozer to replace my HD5B - I ran across a add for a TEREX C6 that sounded like a good deal - well until i went and looked at it .
Seems my home built Tri-Axle trailer was a little small to fit it along with my 66 White dump truck with the 6-200A gas engine with 200 HP to pull it . So the good idea got shelved .
Before I got the HD5B, I had a D6-9U for a few years but it became a money pit besides moving in anywhere with the 9' blade was - sneak it to the job site without permits .
So now the FD 5 fiat with 6 ways blade fits the bill for what I was doing - but now sits out back as kind of gave up the excavating .
Should have a clearance sale some day and include the Adams 411 road grader in the lot of no longer used things .
