Looking for info to build HD version of gas engine starter. I am putting a Perkins 4.236 diesel in a 614 lift.  The original starter is CCW 12v.  It is new rebuilt and will turn the diesel but growls and probably not have a long life.  I have read an old thread here about the gas starters being able to to be rebuilt to turn high compression , large cu. in pulling tractors.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

What model is the Perkins engine? I might be able to hook you up with a hi torque Starter motor if that's what you're lookin' for.....

The original starter is CCW 12v............. motor was a 149 or 160 inch GAS , like D15 farm tractor ?

So the "original starter" is on the bell housing and has nothing to do with PERKINS ?  You just want something that will bolt on and have the right number of TEETH ?    you have the ORIGINAL RING GEAR ?

I have to use the Allis/Buda flywheel. The starter has to locate in the original location in the tractor trans case.  I have a starter coming for a HD3, I600, should work.  The Allis starter has no flange is MT20 mount.

A Perkins 236 engine is very different from the Allis/Buda engines.  I have doubts that a starter from a HD3 would work.  I don't even think that the flywheel from an Allis will bolt up to the Perkins.

The 236 fits in a space allotted for it. I machined a 1/2" adapter and machined and redrilled the Allis flywheel.  Also a 1/2" plate to mate the Perkins to the Allis trans case. The HD3 starter has bigger field coils to turn the diesel engine, it mounts in the trans case of the lift as the smaller starter did. Just putting out little brush fires as I go. The 614 lift became the 700? later years and had a Perkins in it from the factory.

Use a 6 volt starter . with 12 volts they have more power , did that on my old Oldsmobile's in the 55 and up cars using a 49 to 54 starter .
