Hey all,

I went out to do some work with my Industrial-600 backhoe attachment on my HD4 yesterday and when swinging the boom there was more play in the entire unit than I remembered there being before. I thought maybe the swing cylinder anchors needed tightening, but as it turned out, the one with the most play was shattered. I think what must have happened is some moisture got in and cracked it when it froze.

I have the parts manual for the backhoe, and it gives the part the name "ANCHOR, swing cylinder" with a part no 2017898, but no amount of searching online has come up with anything for me.

Besides what the book calls it (anchor) I have no idea if this kind of part might have another name. I'm a bit worried it may be too unique to find. As you can see from the photos, the lower 2/3rds of the part are one diamter, threaded on the bottom to fit a nut and lock washer (seen in the photo attached to the machine still), but then the upper third is a wider diameter and accommodates a threaded hole that a headless threaded hex nut goes in, which serves to spread the top out to make a tight fit when the anchor is in place.

Does anyone have any idea whether or not a part like this can be found to buy from somewhere? Or am I going to have to try to get this fabricated at a steel shop myself, or find some other workaround?

Cheers

That would be awesome if you're able! Where would you be getting it from?

I got new ones from MINNPAR but that was years back .
Other thing would be to make new ones if you have access to a lathe .
What also happens though is wear on the holes in the rotary piston housing and slop in those machined holes in base

Those old Allis Backhoes originated with Henry Corporation in Topeka Kansas.  A number tractor manufacturers used the Cessna Rotary Swing Cylinder as pictured above including Massey Ferguson's of the same era.

Notably, Henry built backhoes in the late 50's featured a swing arrangement using hydraulic cylinders attached to a chain similar to chain found on forklifts.  Simple and rugged but was probably considered a safety hazard and was dropped.  The rotary chain design seemed to take more abuse and still keep going.  The remaining parts for the Cessna are getting thin - perhaps a visit to the machine shop might be the solution or a call to Minn Parr.

Good Luck with the project! ~ Orangeman
