On the new one last night I had to say that my eagle vision found a piece of equipment with the Oliver logo on it.

Bummer, missed it cause I was watching Roy Halladay Pitch a No Hitter in the post season! First episode of American Pickers I've missed in a while. Oh well.

As you noted, the 'REAL' pickers are big, wide workhorses rapidly clearing fields and filling bins.
The guys you see on TV, we refer to locally as 'habitual trespassers' and 'repeat offenders'. Please- if you like them, please lure them away from here. I would prefer never to see them driving past my farm with binoculars.

They didn't show much of the corn picker. They were more interested in the liquor store sign.

Dave, You mean these guys from just up the road haven't been by your place yet? I bet most of the people that watch the show have now idea of the locals shared animosity.

You got me!!!
Eagle Vision sounds better than AGCO Heritage Equipment Vision.
I guess I could just say that my Allis senses are tingling. The same with Oliver.

I thought we're all PICKERS! I wouldn't mind them coming here and looking around. It's the thieves that steal our items that I want to go away! They stole a loader off our little Economy Garden Tractor the other night and an old wagon we used for picking corn with. Would love to catch them, But then I would be the one in Jail!

Even though I am not on the farm any more...I have to kinda agree with farmtoybuilder...at least they are straightforward and willing to bargain to get something. And I have not seen them buy anyting that someone did not want to sell OR had a price beyond their interest.

I've only seen them on TV a couple times. My take on them was if you have it and they want it, it's not worth much of anything. When they're selling, it's gold...

I think the show would be much more interesting if the format was like this:
1. They show up at someone's home, and pick it. 2. Instead of buying the item, they just sell it for the owner. They could tell him what it might be worth. 3. They list it on ebay or as an auction on their own American Pickers website. If it is something they know a collector would want, like a Waukesha B, they could just sell it as a Buy It Now for a high price. 4. At the end of the show, they could have a recap. They go back to the owner where the item was originally picked, and present them with a check, less their cut of 10 to 30%. 5. Everyone is happy. Everyone is a winner. No one is a loser. The seller is thrilled to get a big, big, big check for his Waukesha B, and the Pickers get a cool TV show. The American public looks at the show as the pickers being helpful to people, not scam artists trying to screw an old man out of a tractor for super cheap.

Dang clovis, that makes a whole lot of sense. You've never been in politics I take it!

I often wondered what the people who they bought stuff from thought when they saw the show & seen how much their stuff is really worth.

Clovis, if you knew Mike personally, you'd immediately realize that he's just not that type of guy. It's something-for-nothing opportunism. He's the guy that would sweet-talk you into giving him your grandfather's tractor... on decent steel, and an engine that spins free... with the expectation that he'd invest some elbow grease, love, and a few bucks to return it to proud operational glory, but instead, he'd sell it to someone for $200 use as a yard ornament... And he'd gloat about it. And if you approached him about it afterwards, he'd say you owed HIM, he was doing you a favor by hauling it away.
Only reason he's got a TV show, is because he can't do anything else.
